Halloween Horror Nights has become an institution of fear over the years, and the latest entry in the spooky amusement park entry is no different. Marked as the thirty-fifth entry in the long running attraction, Universal Studios has once again combined original houses with intellectual property-themed haunts to scare the masses. Luckily, we here at Canon Break had the opportunity to check out this year’s Halloween Horror Nights and have ranked the best and worst houses of the institution.

10.Madlands: Caged Cannibals

The premise of Madlands as something of a nod to “The Island of Dr. Moreau” is enticing enough, but the execution of Caged Cannibals simply isn’t able to live up to its story. Seeing psychos have their DNA spliced with beasts would make for a creepy walkthrough but unfortunately, the house is unable to truly capitalize on its promise. Madlands isn’t as terrifying or as thoughtfully well-designed as the other entries on this list, which is both a testament to Halloween Horror Nights’ offerings and a downfall for these caged beasts. Madlands needed more when it came to originality but its design work and overall environment simply weren’t able to elevate this past the lowest rung on this ratings ladder.

9.Stranger Things 5

Perhaps one of the most disappointing houses of our evening, Stranger Things 5 adequately enough translated the events of the final season of the Netflix powerhouse, but did little else to truly give the franchise the grand finale it deserved. There were interesting enough set pieces to be found, including a jaw-dropping moment that saw Will dismantling a Demogorgon. While there is one legendary jump scare that might have been my favorite for this year’s Halloween Horror Night overall, aka a moment that sees a scare actor taking on the role of “Delightful Derek” to tell patrons to “s*** a fat one,” many of the scares simply weren’t up to snuff.

8.Invasion: Alien Abduction

The farm-based house sees an alien invasion taking place in some rather intriguing ways, as house patrons witness a family torn apart by extraterrestrials. The use of shadows in Invasion were some of the best moments of the walk, though the story overall was somewhat straight forward. The “greys” of the affair were slightly changed design wise to make them more terrifying than the traditional aliens many are used to, but said changes never managed to feel stellar. Alien Abduction marks the start of our list wading its way into “serviceable” territory, though the premise of Invasion could have been so much more here.

7.Cybergoria

Often referred to as one of the goriest houses of the night, points should go to Cybergoria for the originality of its premise alone. The technology of the future is here, merging with human mortality to create abominations that are quite eye-popping, though much like Alien Abduction, there’s something lacking regarding an overall narrative here in the original Halloween Horror Nights house. Cybergoria is solid enough, it just is lacking the punch that many of the houses that landed higher on the list had in spades, and it’s a shame because this makes for an original house that shows how original Universal Studios can truly be when it comes to making some of its attractions.

6.Sinners

While Sinners does a solid enough job walking fans through the story of the doomed Moore brothers, Smoke and Stack respectively, it was tough competition overall when it came to the list overall. Various locales from Sinners are recreated well enough, to say nothing of recreating the soul-changing soundtrack, making for a house to remember. It’s a testament to this year’s Halloween Horror Nights that Sinners doesn’t make the top five of our list for 2026, though this house didn’t feel as it was able to capitalize on the now-legendary film in the way that its competition managed to.

5.Evil Dead Burn

Evil Dead Burn starts with a bang, recreating the car crash that got the ball rolling on this Deadite adventure, kicking things off with a decapitated head creepily stating that she’s “found you.” From here, Burn’s Halloween Horror Nights house goes to some wild lengths to recreate the latest film in the Necronomicon’s cursed legacy. There are moments in Evil Dead’s excursion that easily put it above Sinners, especially when it comes to recreating the house from the film from the inside out. What’s more surprising about making the house, as the creators of the house informed the media, is that they had not seen the movie itself before making the spooky locale. While not the greatest movie-themed house of the night, Evil Dead Burn was a worthy entry all the same.

4.HR Bloodengutz Presents a Halloween Fright-Tacular

What HR Bloodengutz loses in scares, it makes up for with pure, unadulterated fun and originality. Breaking free from a mental institute, the former horror host with a screw loose makes his house this year into a tribute to several fictional spooky films. Each house ranges from hilarious to ingenious in their delivery, especially when it comes to a haunted classroom that focuses on the children of the damned. We feel that any other year, HR might make the top three though the strong competition placed this one in the four spot.

3.Hellraiser

Honestly, Hellraiser taking the third spot for us is something of a surprise, as we here at Canon Break are big fans of Pinhead and his deliciously disgusting Cenobites. What works so well about this house isn’t just the sheer amount of blood and gore peppered throughout, but the ingenuity displayed to make you feel not just like you’re reliving the events of the first three films, but in that you feel as though you are being dragged into the cursed puzzle box known as the Lament Configuration. While there can be some minor quibbles with the fact that a few of the Pinheads you’ll encounter on your journey through this hellish landscape are wearing masks instead of full blown make-up and prosthetics, it ultimately is forgivable. Honestly, our favorite scare of the night involved recreating Dr. Cannard’s jaw-dropping arrival as a Cenobite from Hellraiser 2.

2.Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control

In terms of original houses created for this years Halloween Horror Nights, Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control easily took the cake for best of the bunch. Taking patrons through the backstory of these HHN icons, the house takes wild risks that all pay-off to tell the tale, including some experiences that felt like we had never encountered them in any haunted house beforehand. This house simply bursts with originality and scares, weaving together the lives of these two madmen in such a way that it tells a captivating story which does both ghoul justice. There was only one other house that could have possibly brought low Chaos & Control, and it’s a loving tribute to an icon of rock and roll.

1.Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness

The tribute to the dearly departed metal legend not only honored Ozzy that exceeded expectations, but recreated his songs in such a way that they made for amazingly scary and detailed experiences. Songs like “Bark at the Moon” and “Crazy Train” were highlighted during the Prince of Darkness house, ingeniously taking elements from each song to create spooky scenarios. Patrons can’t help but feel a wide range of emotions when walking through Ozzy’s domain here, especially the loving message delivered to fans before they hit the exit from Osbourne himself. It was an easy choice for number one as a tribute to Ozzy and this is sure to go down as one of the most legendary houses to ever be created by Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights.
